NEW CONTACT LENSES

Finally updated my prescription after 6 years.

I have to admit, I'm not the best at taking care of my eyeballs. A long time ago, my cousin told me that you don't need to replace your daily contact lenses everyday; you can wear them for weeks, heck, months to save money.

So, many years later, I've been doing just that, under the guise of saving money. Last year, I went to the optometrist as part of my health diagnosis for Ehler's Danlos syndrome (I don't have it), but I am on the hypermobility spectrum, and eye health is part of it. I admitted to the doctor that I don't change my lenses as often as I should, and he urged me to change this habit, because it could lead to dire consequences.

I've also seen the videos on Instagram about them too. But did I change my ways? No, I did not.

Until today, that is!

I finally made an appointment to get a new prescription. I've been using a 6-year-old prescription, and my astigmatism has worsened, as well as the myopia (i.e., near-sightedness) in my left eye. I thought that by this age, my myopia would start to reverse! But not yet, I guess.

Today, they only had a box of Acuvue lenses with blue light filter for me to test out. I was shocked by how much sharper and brighter the world was! Originally I wanted to get weeklies, but I asked the doctor for his advice. I told him that lately my eyes have been getting very dry towards the second half of the day, so he suggested I go with dailies because it'll help with that.

I quickly realized that my eyes probably get dry because I've been wearing the same lenses for weeks. But of course, I didn't tell him that part. Instead, I made a quiet promise to myself to change my lenses daily.

He said the weeklies are cheaper but the lenses are thicker so they might be less comfortable. So I'll make the switch if I run into financial troubles.

We have a follow-up appointment on Monday to make sure everything is, in his words, "perfect." I'm taking this as a fresh start. I'll throw out my lenses every night now, unless I wear them for like, 2 hours? How long is a day, anyway? 24 hours? 8 hours? (That was part of my reasoning as to why I could wear the lenses for longer. But yeah, one week is a stretch.)

These new contact lenses have a slight blue tint to them, so now I have a slight blue tint around my iris. You can't tell though, unless you get really close to my eyeballs.
