MONDAY CLEANING: BEDROOM (READING NOOK)

Weekly cleaning series.

The weather has cooled down slightly. However, it's still warm, so I will try to clean in short, quick bursts so I can take longer breaks. :P

Later, I am meeting an old coworker who happens to be passing through Lucerne, which means I should finish all this before I leave (around 18:00).

Weekly clean

I've been dreading this section for a few weeks now because it's a doozy. Traditionally, my bedroom is always the least aesthetically-pleasing room because it's closed off from guests. The wall facing the bed has become a storage space, collecting unused objects and dust. I've spent months—years?—wondering what to do with the space and it's been ever-changing.

I've finally decided to turn it into a reading/cozy nook. This will take several sessions because today I plan on only tackling the left-most corner, as that's where I plan on putting the lounge chair. Last week, I've also decided to move one of the wall shelves to the bedroom so I can have a zine shelf. (I was going to put that shelf on my side of the office, but I think it's better suited as a zine shelf in the bedroom.)

Ok, I've rambled on enough.

Tasks before cleaning
  1. Write down to-dos for the day
  2. Tidy up desk

12:01–12:09

Before starting on the corner, I quickly tidied up my side of the bed: dusted the side table, vacuumed, put away some clothes, etc. Wanted to get through this quickly because I'm hungry now and I need to get lunch.

Tasks before cleaning
  1. Order lunch
  2. Start blog post
  3. Eat

13:39—13:57

The goal today is to clean the corner up to the where that black standing shelf is (if you can see it). This area ended up being a dumping ground of things we moved because we reorganized/got rid of something in another area.

Cleaning feels like a tango between shuffling things around and decluttering. Some things are currently back in the office now, and until we get the proper storage, there might me more rounds of back-and-forth until the dust settles.

Tasks before cleaning
  1. Upload images and queue post
  2. Finance stuff

15:03–15:11 DONE!

I'm really excited to try my new cozy corner tonight! My View-Master is prominently displayed (a vintage score from the weekend, for those who may not follow my NOTES), and I hope to move the shelf over from the office later this week.

Technically I could do more, but it's so freaking hot now and I want to conserve my energy for the evening. If I make any updates, I will share them in my NOTES page. I have lots of ideas for this wall, which I will write about as I come up with them.

Stay cool, both physically and metaphysically, dear readers.
