MONDAY CLEANING: ALL ROOMS (EXCEPT OFFICE)
Weekly cleaning series.
It's going to be a busy two days. We're leaving for the Netherlands on Wednesday, which means for today's cleaning we need to do all the rooms—except the office, because that will be closed while we're out.
Today's cleaning will probably last all day as well, because:
- I'll probably take some breaks to play Tomodachi Life in between (I'm only human)
- We need to run errands in the afternoon, which means that when we come back I'll need like an hour of couch time
Weekly clean
While I'm striving for surface-level cleanliness, our place is so grimy that I can't help but want to spend more time on certain areas. Will see how it goes. For today's program I'll note down the start and end times, because I'm curious how long it actually takes for me to clean a room.
I normally just note down the time I took the "before" photo and then the "after," but a lot of time passes when I actually start cleaning. And since I'm doing it per room today, it makes sense to organize my post this way. Why am I telling you all of this? Idk.
Tasks before cleaning
- Take meds
- Write down to-dos for the day
- Some blog maintenance
- Tidy up desk
Kitchen (12:13–12:51)
Before.
As I started to clean, I discovered that my kitchen spray was missing. This sent me into a frenzy where I tore apart the under-the-sink cabinet and ended up organizing that to better find the missing bottle. After shouting at Daniel for like 5 minutes to help me find it, I remembered that I left it outside one week ago, when I cleaned the outdoor table. My bad.
Since I need to leave at 13:30 for an appointment, this turned out to be a very stressful but quick clean of the kitchen, where I made faster judgment calls on what's acceptable, rather than clean everything that bothered me. I did spend some time scrubbing dish drying tray because it was grimy as FUCK (I retracted the details because it was too disgusting), so that needed to be done.
I had wanted to mop the floor but opted to spot clean instead. We'll give it a vacuum before we leave.
After. I see a spot on the floor that I missed.
Tasks before cleaning
- Eat lunch
- Brush teeth
- Lash appointment
- Clean shoes
Hallway (16:59–17:18)
BEFORE:

Oh wow, what felt like 30 minutes was actually 15?! Dang. Anyway, my area is the first half of the hallway. I should've taken it from a different angle because it sort of looks the same. Most of it was vacuuming though. I worked up a sweat!
AFTER:

Tasks before cleaning
- Finish lunch
- Buy museum tickets
- Reply to important messages
Living room (19:01-19:37)
Before.
I cleaned all the surface areas and Daniel did the floors. This one took longer but was less strenuous. I had wanted to change the pillow cases to something more summery but got lazy. I can do that after I get back. Also, Boba was sleeping on the couch (she's under her stinky brown blanket) so I didn't want to disturb her too much.
After. It looks cleaner in person!
Added banana plushie and blue pillow for a summer influence. I'm kind of disappointed that the before/after pictures look so similar. The 0.7x zoom hides all the dirtiness.
Tasks before cleaning
- Eat dinner
22:42—DONE
Took a longer dinner break, watched two episodes of The Legend of Vox Machina and Daniel introduced me to a new game called "Demon Bluff" (it's like a virtual version of Mafia/Werewolf).
I then spent around 5 minutes just vacuuming the area around my side of the bed and took out my suitcase. That'll be all for the bedroom. No pics because it would just look the same.
Meanwhile, the office looks like this again:
It's just an endless cycle.
A problem for next next Monday.
