PRETEND TYPEWRITER

I'M A BARD!

Discovering my personal D&D 5e class.

This morning, I watched an Instagram video* where someone explains that if you are autistic/neurodivergent, you should consider what your D&D class might be to help you navigate life. They go on to explain that every class has different strengths and weaknesses—much like yourself—and in D&D, being different is a good thing.

"A group full of barbarians would be very entertaining to watch but would definitely benefit from the help of a wizard."

*I hope it's this video but can't confirm because when I open it to double-check on my browser, IG just shows me a completely different video. And I can't check on my phone because I've already used up my 30 minutes of IG for the day. So I'm totally paraphrasing the example above.

This got me very excited, because I had never considered to check what class I would be. This Buzzfeed quiz came up second on search, (the first was a bad link), so I decided to test it out. I always assumed I'd be a warlock—a dark and mysterious type—probably because that's what I wish to be. Or perhaps that's how I see myself:

Guilt as my demonic patron, with a familiar (a cat, obvs) by my side.

Instead, I got a bard. And you know what? That makes sense.

Bards charm people with their words and uplift their party through song. Just the other day, someone told me that I'm like a cheerleader because I'm good at cheering people up. In my younger years, my friends called me their clown because I was always trying to make them laugh. I don't like that one as much, because I don't want to be anybody's clown! (Well, except for Daniel, because he's also my clown. We're just two clowns, clowning our way through life.)

And to get technical, I was trained in the arts, writing is my favorite medium to express myself, I have no problem karaoking onstage to strangers, and I was even in a band for a few years! ʕ◉ᴥ◉ʔ

Anyway, this got me thinking that I should create a character sheet but with my actual stats. Maybe that'll help me learn more about myself, what types of skills I want to invest more into, or even spells I would want to learn.

For example, a bard spell I would love to know is vicious mockery. I'm really bad at comebacks (mostly because I'm just in shock for like, weeks) and feel like I'm not very good at defending myself especially if I'm intimidated by others. I could use spells as a way to interpret a type of skillset I wish to learn, like silencing people with clever insults! ʕ◉ᴥ◉ʔ

I can even decide what level I'm at. Intuitively, I feel like I'm level 3. I have some powers, but I still have a lot to learn! I'm just a baby bard!

I sent the quiz to my D&D party and tried to make some predictions. So far, I got 1 out of 5 correct. I guessed that Daniel would be a fighter because he loves fighting games, and that's what he got! (The character he plays in our campaign is a bard, actually.)

If you're curious, take the quiz! Were the results accurate for you too? Would you consider making a character sheet of yourself? I wanna know!

I'm going to start on my character sheet next week. I'd love to start RIGHT THE FUCK NOW but I have things to do and choir rehearsal tomorrow, so I need to get into bed at a reasonable time tonight. Will definitely make a follow-up post!
